'I was struck with the dilemma of immortality experienced by our Elvish hero. She wants to live a full life, and love those around her, but she also feels the need to protect herself from the despair ofĀ losing her closest friends, over and over for a thousand years. I think her struggle is a powerful metaphor for how we all must navigate the joys and pain of being mortal. How do we remain vulnerableĀ and open to life's beauty, but not allow loss and death to eventually drag us down? I personally believe that we must choose to love, one day at a time, because that is the only path that leads to a lifeĀ worth living.'
